Any spelling or syntax errors are verbatim from the original text: Fairfield Daily Ledger Tuesday June 24, 1930 SHEAHAN Funeral Funeral services for John T. SHEAHAN, for twenty years or more with the Wabash Railway Company as engineer of Maintenance of way at Moberly, were held Friday morning at 9 o'clock from St. John's Catholic Church at Moberly, Mo., and were largely attended. The Rev. Father McNeill paid high tribute to Mr. SHEAHAN as a man and to his life. Many traits in the life of Mr. SHEAHAN could be stressed, Father McNeill said, but outstanding among them he considered the fortitude and courage, the will to do and carry on under any affliction and in face of any difficulties; his love of and devotion in his family and loyalty to his friends. "Mr. SHEAHAN was a man of iron will and he used that will to carry his life's purposes to the end. He resolved what was right to do and did it against whatever odds interposed. To his courage was added humility, tenderness, friendliness. Such was the spirit that inhabited his body and predominated his life. Touching the lives of others his spirit is being carried on in his memory by the many young men he helped in getting their start toward success," the pastor said. The Burlington, Gasette, writing of the death of Mr. SHEAHAN, recalled his services with the Burlington road and how they attracted the attention of Henry MILLER, who later became superintendent of the Wabash and induced Mr. SHEAHAN to join the services of that railroad. Speaking of one of Mr. SHEAHAN's works, the Gazette said "the widening of the old narrow guage line running from Burlington, Wasrington, and Oskaloosa, approximately 125 miles of track, was a feat of railroad construction that attracted attention in railroad circles over the entire country. The task was performed on a drizzly Sunday, the preliminaries being arranged by Mr. SHEAHAN. Narrow gauage locomotive and cars left Burlington in the morning carrying section crews recruited from the entire Burlington system. The narrow gauage equipment was replaced with broad guage equipment by evening of the same day." The body of Mr. SHEAHAN was taken as far as Albia Friday afternoon on Wabish train No. 3, which left Moberly at 12:55 o'clock. At Albia transfer to the Burlington was made for Fairfield, where burial was made. The funeral party traveled in the private car of W.W. GREENLAND, general superintendent of the Wabash. Mrs. SHEAHAN and daughter Mary and son Robert and the formers sister, Miss Agnes MCNAMARA accompanied the body here. - Moberly Index. *Transcribed for genealogy purposes.
