(also in Knox County). ***** Ulysses Dispatch (Ulysses, Nebr.), February 7, 1900, p. 3, col. 5 OBITUARY. -John Taylor was born in Champaign, Ohio, in 1820, died in Ulysses, Neb., Jan. 30th, 1900. Most of his life was spent on the farm, and his education was received in the common schools. When a boy he came with his parents to Illinois, living in Fulton, and later in Knox Counties. He was married in 1847 to Eunice Milam, who bore him twelve children, seven of them yet living, and with one exception residents of this vicinity. On Aug. 8th, 1871, his wife Eunice was taken from him by death, in Knox Co., Ill. In 1873 he was married to Mrs. Amanda Jones, who has been a faithful companion to him for more than a quarter of a century, crowning all with these last months of patient, unfailing ministry in the sickness that finally caused his death. No children have come to them, and they have thus been drawn near to each other in their declining years. They came to Nebraska in 1879, settling in Butler County on a farm just north of Ulysses, where they lived till some seven years ago, when advancing years caused him to cease active labor, and he moved into the house where the angel of death found him. He became a member of the Ulysses Christian church in 1895 and has lived in active sympathy with the work of that body. Truly it must be said that a good man, and an upright citizen has been taken from us. He was faithful in attendance on the services of the Lord's house until prevented by illness. His children and wife record his gentle patience as a father and husband. A man of cheerful, happy temperament, with no repinings even in the trying circumstances of his last distress, his kind personality will be greatly missed and mourned in Ulysses. To her who must go on the way of life alone, missing daily the loving companionship, his absence will come as an irreparable loss. "He giveth His beloved sleep." Funeral services were held in the Christian church on Thursday at ten o'clock, conducted by the pastor, after which the remains were interred in the Grim cemetery. _____ We desire to thank the friends and neighors for their deeds of kindness during the sickness and after the death of our husband and father.
