Description	:	John Thoms Barr was the oldest of five children of Michael Barr and Cynthia Thomas Barr. He was born in Monongalia county, West Virginia, on January 26, 1846, and departed this life at the home of his son in Alton, Kans., on January 30, 1943. At the time of his death, he was 97 years and four days old. He grew to manhood in West Virginia and was united in marriage to Malinda Efaw on August 4, 1867. Read More	John Thoms Barr was the oldest of five children of Michael Barr and Cynthia Thomas Barr. He was born in Monongalia county, West Virginia, on January 26, 1846, and departed this life at the home of his son in Alton, Kans., on January 30, 1943. At the time of his death, he was 97 years and four days old. He grew to manhood in West Virginia and was united in marriage to Malinda Efaw on August 4, 1867. To this union was born ten children, seven daughters and three sons, six of whom preceded him in death. His wife preceded him in death on March 4, 1925. At an early age he joined the Cross Roads Baptist church in Cross Roads, West Virginia. With his family he moved to Downs in 1885. Soon afterwards he transferred his membership to the Downs Baptist church, of which he remained a faithful member to the day of his death. He was never happier than when in the service of the church, doing what he could for his Saviour and Lord. He was a devoted husband and father, always willing to do just a little more than his share in helping those he loved. his services to the country included services in the Northern army during the Civil war and pioneering in the early days of Kansas.
