John Booth Obit: Chapin Man Dead: Well known Chapin man died last Saturday Chapin, Iowa April 17th John Thomas Booth passed away at his home in this city, Saturday morning succumbing to an illness of many years. Mr. Booth was born in Grant county, Wisconsin, January 22, 1841. In 1888 he came to Iowa settling in Cerro Gordo county, south of Mason city. Four years later he moved to Chapin and made his home here until his death. He married Mary E. Webb in Shellsburg, Wisconsin March 16, 1869 and to this Union were born 12 children, seven of whom are living. Mr. Booth served his country loyally during the war of the rebellion and was the last of the civil war veterans in this community. He was of quiet, unassuming disposition, faithful to his friends and kindly and affectionate to his family. For many years he had been a great sufferer but always bore his affliction with patience. Seven children are left to mourn his death, Mrs. Cora Jackson, of Hazel Green , Wisconsin; Mrs. James Vokes and Fred Booth, of Moline, Illinois; Miss Maud Booth, of Chapin; R.A. Booth, of Marshalltown; T.E. Booth, of Waukegan Illinois; and C.L. Booth of Hampton; six Brothers George Booth of Elmo, Wisconsin; Sam and Will Booth, of Clear Lake; Charles Booth, of Mason City; Joseph Booth, of Colorado Springs, Colorado. And Frank Booth, of Wisconsin also survive. The funeral service says were held in the Methodist Church in this city last Monday afternoon and were conducted by Reverend Thomas Carson, of Sheffield.
