Va., the information, to the family being 'carried to them by Mayor George G. Young who received "an inquiry from an undertaker from that place. Mr. Cooney was a son of Mrs. Mary A. Cooney, 55 Thomas street. He was 45 years old and was a native of Cumberland and resided here until, after her grew to manhood. Quite a number of years ago he moved to West Virginia and engaged in the coal mining business at Newburg. About a year ago he abandoned the coal business at Newburg and took other employment for a time and several months ago located at Blaine, W. Va., and went to work in the mines. Some weeks ago his health began failing and on last Thursday he consulted a physician at Blaine. The physician found Mr Cooney affected with disease of the heart, prescribed for him and advised him to be very careful, rest and keep quiet. On Saturday he felt very much better and resumed work in the mines Saturday morning. On Sunday morning he became quite ill at his boarding house and in a few hours died. The undertaker, while going through his clothing found a card from Mr Cooney's little girl, mailed in Cumberland a few days before. This prompted the sending of a letter to the mayor of Cumberland which reached here yesterday morning and in a little while the family was notified. Mrs(sic) Margaret Cooney, sister of the deceased and Mr Frank Stein left for Blaine at once and had the body brought here on the Western Maryland train last evening. The remains were taken from the Stein undertaking parlors to the Cooney residence on Thomas Street this morning. The funeral will take place tomorrow morning at 8 o'clock at St Patrick's church. Mr Cooney leaves a widow who is an invalid in a hospital in Weston, W Va and three children: two of the children, Helen and John, ages 10 and 7 respectively are at a school in Wheeling. The youngest child, Margaret, aged 5, makes her home with her grandmother here. Mr Cooney is survived also by his mother and two sisters.
