| Description | : | John Thomas Miner, OBE, Canadian conservationist. Miner grew up in Dover Center (now Westlake), Ohio where he had his only year of formal education. The Miner family arrived in the Kingsvile, Ontario area in 1878. Here Miner's embarked on a career as a market farmer and hunting guide to supplement the family's income from brick making. Miner married in 1888. The first two children from the marriage died young and Miner subsequently became active in a local church.
