| Description | : | John Laird was one of ten children born to James and Ann Laird, natives of Scotland. He came with his parents to Bradford, Iowa, in June of 1857. John, with brothers Andrew and Hugh, were veterans of the 4th Iowa Cavalry. John was a resident of Bradford when he enlisted as a Private on 23 Dec 1863 at the age of 28.
