Description : John Thomas Porter, son of Stephen and Catherine Jane Coffey Porter was born in Oregon Territory. On 4 Nov. 1877 he married Martha Alice Brown. She was born in 1863 in Crawford County, AR.

From his father's homestead near Silverton, Oregon, John Porter and his wife Martha Brown crossed the Pudding River into Eastern Oregon and homesteaded a couple miles from Wapanitia. Here nine children were born to the couple.

About 1898 they moved to Yakima, Washington. Martha died in 1903 giving birth to their 10th child.
