Description	:	UNION ARMY CIVIL WAR John Spilman was born in Hancock County, Indiana. About 1838 his parents and all their children started moving westward. In 1840 they were listed in Hancock County, Illinois. By 1844 they were early pioneers in Marion County, Iowa. John was married to Nancy Grace Robinson Bradley, daughter of George C. and Nancy Pierce Bradley, in 1862 in Mahaska County, Iowa. John fought in the Union Army, Company K of the 3rd Iowa Cav. in the Civil War. In 1870-1871 the family moved to Kansas where John and Nancy remained until their deaths. J.... SPILLMAN The sad news reached Belleville last week of the death of J. T. Spillman on March 30th at his home in Kanopolis, Kansas. Mr. Spillman was one of the pioneer settlers of Jefferson twp., and has many friends in the county who will regret to learn of his death. The family moved from here to Salina a number of years ago, going from there to Kanopolis where they have since resided. The deceased was seventy eight years, one month and twenty-four days of age. The funeral services were held at the home on April 1st at one o'clock. Mr. and Mrs. Spillman visited old friends in Belleville last summer while enroute to Nebraska to visit a son. He was a man of inestimable character and numbered his friends by his acquaintances. A sad feature connected with his death is the fact that his son, G. O. Spillman died, at his home in Nebraska on March 31st within twenty-four hours of his father's death. Mr. Spillman Sr, leaves a widow, four sons and three daughters, and Mr. Spillman Jr. leaves a family besides many friends to mourn their death.
