He farmed most of his life before moving to Sumter in the 1940's. He loved the Word of God, especially the Gospel of Luke from which his favorite verses were taken. Tall and lean with beautiful white hair, he could be seen sitting on the front porch in his favorite rocker, quietly smoking his pipe.
