Description	:	Sunday morning at 3:30 o'clock, John Thrawl, 82 years of age, and one of the few surviving civil war veterans of this county, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Grant Mitchell, one mile north and two miles east of Windfall. Read More	Sunday morning at 3:30 o'clock, John Thrawl, 82 years of age, and one of the few surviving civil war veterans of this county, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Grant Mitchell, one mile north and two miles east of Windfall. Death ended an illness of almost a year, caused by blood poisoning which started from a place on his left foot, where a large wart had become infected. The great toe was amputated, but this did not check the disease, which spread to the foot and leg. Since last November he had made his home with his daughter and son-in-law, and had every attention, but the disease continued to progress. John Thrawl enlisted in the army in Ohio, his native state, where he was born August 10, 1844, and saw hard service. At the close of the war he came to Tipton county and located in the Windfall community, teaching school in Wildcat township for several terms. In 1871 John Thrawl was united in marriage to Miss Helen Weaver, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Weaver, pioneer settlers of the Windfall community. The good wife died in 1880, and since that time until he went to make his home with his daughter, he resided on his farm northeast of Windfall. Six children were born to the union of the deceased and his wife, five of whom are living. Oscar, a son, was killed by being kicked by a vicious horse several years ago. The surviving children are Albert Thrawl, of Mansfield. O.; Milton and Clyde Thrawl. of Elwood; Mrs. Emma Gilligan, of Fairmount, and Mrs. Grant Mitchell, at whose home he died. After the death of his first wife, the deceased was united in marriage to Mrs. Leola Meyers, but no children were horn to this union. The couple later separated, and the widow resides in California. John Thrawl was a man who held the respect of all who knew him. and his passing is a matter of genuine regret to all.
