| Description | : | Husband of Rebecca. Sailed from England to Massachusetts aboard the ship 'Lyon' arriving on February 5, 1631 on the same ship as Roger Williams. The two became friends. About 1643, John received a grant from the Dutch and established Throckmorton's Neck (today Throg's Neck, NY), but an Indian massacre forced him back to Providence. After 1665, John bought shares in the new settlement authorized under Colonel Nicolls in the Monmouth Patent. He never lived there, but gave the land to his sons John, Jr. and Job.
