He attained the age of 84 years, ten months and 11 days. He suffered a severe stroke on Sep. 30, 1994. John Valentien was born on a farm one and one-half miles east of Lennox, SD, on Feb. 1, 1910, the son of Mat and Hannah (Bruns) Valentien. In 1916, he moved with his family to their farm three and one-half miles east of Lennox, where he grew to manhood and helped with the farming operations. He attended Crowley School District 67. On Feb. 14, 1948, he was united in marriage to Janet Javers at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in Lennox. He farmed on the home farm until 1972 when he retired. They continued to live on the farm until June of 1994, when they moved to Lennox. Mr. Valentien was preceded in death by his brother in Sep. of 1913, his mother in August of 1923, his father in December of 1965, and one sister, Jennie, in February of 1971. Grateful for having shared his life are his widow, Janet; three children: Gene Valentien and his wife, Billie, of rural Lennox, Linda Pien and her husband, John, of Lennox, Dianne Neuroth and her husband, Tim, of Sioux Falls; six grandchildren: Mark Valentine and his wife, Jamie, Erin Valentien, David and Laura Pien, Justin and Colin Neuroth; and one sister, Marhta Valentien of Lennox.
