Vic Peterson, former La Porte City business man and resident of the city for nearly 50 years passed away at the State University hospital in Iowa City yesterday (Wednesday) morning at 11 o’clock at the age of 67 years. Death was contributed to cirrhosis of the liver and complications. He had been in failing health since February and had been hospitalized since May 19. Born in 1882 John Victor Peterson was born in Sweden Feb. 1, 1882, to Peter and Johanna Peterson. He received his education in Sweden where he graduated from high school at the age of 15 years. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith and joined the Lutheran church in Sweden. At the age of 17 years he emigrated to the United States and located at Havelock, Iowa. In 1900 he came to La Porte City, where he resided until his death. He was united in marriage to Miss Hazel Bowers in La Porte City March 22, 1922. Surviving are his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Paul Davison and two grandsons, Timmy and Tommy Davison of La Porte City and one brother, Gus Peterson of Coeur D Alene, Idaho. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Employed Here For 19 years he was employed at the Iowa Canning Company here and for 12 years he was the proprietor of a shoe shop here. In 1940 he retired from business and had since done carpenter work until his health failed. Services Friday Funeral services are set for 2 o’clock Friday afternoon at the Johannsen funeral home with Rev. M.E. Shank of the Evangelical United Brethren church in charge. Members of the IOOF lodge will attend the service in a body and give their ritualistic rites at the cemetery. Burial will be in West View cemetery.
