Funeral services were held at the Congregational Church in this city, Wednesday morning, October 29, conducted by Rev. Jackson of the Plainview Methodist Church. The church was crowded by old friends of the deceased from Stark Valley and Foster besides his many acquaintance of this city. John W. Beatty, a pioneer of Pierce county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Guy R. Stewart, at Laurel, Nebraska, Saturday, October 16, 1915. Funeral services were held at the Congregational Church in this city, Wednesday morning, October 29, conducted by Rev. Jackson of the Plainview Methodist Church. The church was crowded by old friends of the deceased from Stark Valley and Foster besides his many acquaintance of this city. John W. Beatty was born on a farm near Elkport, Clayton county, Iowa, February 3, 1851. Here on this pioneer farm surrounded by most picturesque hills and densely wooded district, he grew into early manhood. The moral conditions for that early day were almost ideal. The sacred old family alter did not fail to implant the most deeply religious sentiments on the minds of the seven children, who with their parents gathered around it. He worked on a farm and attended district school during his earlier years. Later, he was a student for several terms in Western College. He married Miss Mary Elizabeth Hunter, May 66, 168676. To this union five children were born, W.I. Beatty of Foster, Mrs. Jeanette Stewart of Laurel, Mrs. Josephine Thiel of Billingham, Washington and twins boys, who died in infancy. For many years the family resided near Foster with a few years spent at University Place, Nebr. Mr. Beatty was a man of sterling integrity with very strong pronounced religious views and with a soul bubbling over with a love for music. His supreme resignation during his protracted illness was in perfect accord with the main tenor of his life. He was a life member of the Methodist Church. His wife preceded him to the Great Beyond, January 10, 1907. During the last year of his life, Mr. Beatty was tenderly and lovingly cared for in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Guy R.
