Description	:	John W. Cole, 90, passed away Monday, November 8, 2021, at Crystal Lake Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born August 15, 1931, in Providence, he was the youngest of 10 sons to Arthur C. Cole and Gertrude I. Thibodeau. In 1951 he enlisted in the Navy serving aboard the USS Earl B. Hall during the Korean Conflict. John also served on board the USS Libra and USS Kline. He was encouraged to reenlist; his commission was held for a year instead of the customary 6 months and included a bump up in rank. John chose... Read More	John W. Cole, 90, passed away Monday, November 8, 2021, at Crystal Lake Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born August 15, 1931, in Providence, he was the youngest of 10 sons to Arthur C. Cole and Gertrude I. Thibodeau. In 1951 he enlisted in the Navy serving aboard the USS Earl B. Hall during the Korean Conflict. John also served on board the USS Libra and USS Kline. He was encouraged to reenlist; his commission was held for a year instead of the customary 6 months and included a bump up in rank. John chose to return to civilian life where he pursued various careers. He was a truck driver for many years and in the recent years finally decided he didn't need a CDL anymore. He was an active member and past master of the Friendship Lodge #7. John enjoyed Broadway Musicals at PPAC, theater at Trinity Rep, and concerts at the Vets Auditorium. A good game of cards or cribbage also filled the bill. He was widely read and enjoyed lively conversatio His teams of Belgian draft horses were a major source of enjoyment for him, and he was privileged to be the caisson driver with his team for the late Sgt. Steven Shaw of the Providence Police Department in 1994. Sadly, we have lost an encyclopedia of knowledge in John's passing. Special tanks to his Beacon Hospice team for the love, care, support and most importantly the respect that they provided in his final days. Survivors include children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. The next time you see a veteran, please thank them for their service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Beacon Hospice with special attention to their Veterans Recognition program. His funeral service and burial were private.
