Description	:	John W. Fischer ,95, of Newburgh, IN passed away peacefully at Deaconess Gateway Hospital on Tuesday May 17, 2016. John was born on December 6, 1920, in Yankeetown IN. the son of Aaron and Frieda Fischer. John graduated from Yankeetown High School and Lockyear Business College. He was called to WWII and served in the Army Air Corp as a B17 Bomber pilot as well as a training instructor. John was born on December 6, 1920, in Yankeetown IN. the son of Aaron and Frieda Fischer. John graduated from Yankeetown High School and Lockyear Business College. He was called to WWII and served in the Army Air Corp as a B17 Bomber pilot as well as a training instructor. He was a merchandising manager/buyer for DeJong's Department Store in Evansville for 44 years. Married to the former Ella Mae (Pate), in December 1940. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on December 8, 2010. John was a charter member of American Baptist East Church (formerly Eastern Heights Baptist Church). He served in all church offices as moderator, deacon, trustee and many others. He was considered a patriarch of his church; everyone admired and respected John, holding in high esteem his personal opinions. He was a 50 year Mason member of Reed Masonic Lodge No. 316. He greatly enjoyed playing golf, watched golf tournaments, often vacationing with his wife in Madeira Beach FI. and Amelia Island. John loved his tractor and spent numerous hours mowing his many acres in Yankeetown. John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 73 years Ella Mae, his only daughter Jane Ann and his brother Nat Fischer. He is survived by his son Marc and his daughter-in-law Darlene, Nephew Ken (Elaine) Fischer. Funeral Services will be held at 10 am, Friday, May 20, 2016 at American Baptist East Church, 6300 Washington Ave., Evansville, with Pastor Jeff Stratton officiating. Burial will be in Bates Hill Cemetery, Yankeetown, IN. Friends may visit from 4 pm until 7 pm, Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel-A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Ave., Evansville and again from 9 am until time of service at 10 am, Friday at American Baptist East Church.
