He peacefully passed away in his home at Crooked Creek, Alberta, on January 16, 1981, reaching the age of seventy-two years. Dad spent his boyhood years in the Swalwell, Alberta, and Needles, British Columbia, areas. He peacefully passed away in his home at Crooked Creek, Alberta, on January 16, 1981, reaching the age of seventy-two years. Dad spent his boyhood years in the Swalwell, Alberta, and Needles, British Columbia, areas. He found the Lord and on April 12, 1925, was baptized, becoming a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite at Linden, Alberta. Dad's love for the outdoors and the opportunities in the North of establishing his own home drew him to homestead in the Crooked Creek area in 1928. Here he resided for the rest of his life, except three years spent at Abbotsford, British Columbia and four years in mission work at Fort Vermilion, Alberta. On August 14, 1938, he was married to me, Lillian Schartner, by Min. Samuel Boese. Our home was blessed with six children. We shared the joys and sorrows of life for more than forty-two years. About four years ago, the Lord called Father to a deeper consecration, for which he often expressed thankfulness. In 1978, he underwent heart surgery. During this, he felt the Lord said, "Your time has not yet come." These past two years, and more, of "borrowed time" have been precious to him and us. Those left to remember Dad are his wife, Lillian; two sons Harvey and wife Rhena of Enderby, British Columbia; and Robert of Crooked Creek, Alberta; three daughters: Rebecca and husband Wilbert Thiessen of Crooked Creek, Alberta; Virginia of Grande Prairie, Alberta; and Roberta of Wembley, Alberta; 10 grandchildren; and many relatives and friends. One daughter, Laurena; his parents; two brothers; and one sister preceded him in death. Funeral services were held in the Rosedale Mennonite Church at Crooked Creek, Alberta, January 19, 1981, with Min. Lorne Thiessen and Min. P.I. Thiessen in charge. Interment was made in the Rosedale Cemetery, with Min. Jeff Dueck officiating.
