Heuckendorf, son of Henry and Lena Schroder Heuckendorf, was born in Marlow Germany, May 23, 1889, and met his untimely death Friday evening, November 23, 1951, in Union County, Iowa, at the age of 62 years and 6 months. The Heuckendorf family came to America when John was two years old. They settled on a farm in Adair county, where John grew to manhood, and it was on the farm that he made his home until 1931 when he sold out and moved to Orient. In January 1909 he was united in marriage with Miss Goldie McClure. To Mr. and Mrs. Heuckendorf five children were born. In May 1922 Mrs. Heuckendorf passed away, leaving him with the care of the small children. John shouldered this responsibility with phenomenal courage, and loyalty. His family never wanted for anything that was for their good, if it were within his ability to supply it. But most of all, he had a devout love and affection for his family. After some years in Orient, he moved to Greenfield, where he was employed by the Fontanelle Implement Company of Greenfield, and later by Kerr-Cochrane Company of Creston. He moved to Creston in 1946, which has since been his home. And for some time, has been selling Fox-Bilt feed. John's various activities has won him a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. For those who knew him, felt that warmth of friendship and sincerity of purpose that permeated his life. On April 1, 1951, he was united in marriage with Mrs. Daisey Bittner. And although this union was short, it was a most happy one. Those surviving him besides his wife are his five children, Mrs. Inez Sheehan of Detroit, Ivan of Minneapolis, Addie of Cherokee, Mrs. Mildred Shipley of Des Moines, Mrs. Clara Miller of St. Paul, Minnesota, and one step son Fred Bittner of Marshalltown. Also thirteen grandchildren. Besides those named, he is also survived by five brothers and three sisters; Will, Paul, Fred, Frank and Walter of Greenfield, Mrs. Ed Goetz of Orient, Mrs. Lewis Dwyer of Greenfield, and Mrs. Herman Kreis of Creston. His parents and three sisters have preceded him in death. There are many nephews and nieces, and many many friends who are also grieved by his passing. Interment was in the Fontanelle cemetery.
