Rockholtz, Sr., died at his home in Rochester township, Cedar county, Iowa, March 10, 1897, aged 80 years, 4 months and 24 days. Deceased was born in Colenback*, Germany, Oct. 16, 1816. He came to America in 1846, landing in Ne York City, and was married the same year in Jersey City to Miss Anna Marie Wildt. Rockholtz, Sr., died at his home in Rochester township, Cedar county, Iowa, March 10, 1897, aged 80 years, 4 months and 24 days. Deceased was born in Colenback, Germany, Oct. 16, 1816. He came to America in 1846, landing in Ne York City, and was married the same year in Jersey City to Miss Anna Marie Wildt. He worked at his trade, that of a stone cutter, for six years in Jersey City and Philadelphia. Removed to his present home in 1852, where he has since resided--a period of 45 years. He belonged to the Lutheran church in Germany, and for many years was a consistent member of the Reformed church at Hebron, near his late home. Eleven children survive, four sons and seven daughters. His wife died March 21, 1881. He was an honest, upright man, respected by all who knew him, a kind husband and father, a good neighbor and friend. He was afflicted for a number of years, and met death cheerfully and willingly, retaining consciousness to the end. ∼Johann Wilhelm* Rochholz (John's name before it was "Americanized") was the son of Johann Adam Rochholz and Margaretha Magdalena Meseth. He came to America about 1846. Family lore has it that he came with his prospective bride Anna Maria Wildt, whom he could not marry in Bavaria because she was Catholic and he was Lutheran. They got married in New Jersey, and he pursued his trade of stone cutter. Some six years later they moved to Iowa where he farmed and worked as a stone mason while she produced children -- altogether 11 of them: George E.
