| Description | : | John first enlisted as a Private in Confederate service on April 21, 1861 in Captain Arthur L. Rogers' Company, Mounted Artillery (Loudoun Artillery), 8th Regiment Virginia Volunteers. He deserted prior to May 23, 1862. He then enlisted as a Private in Union service in Company A, Loudoun County Virginia Rangers Cavalry Battalion on January 15, 1863. He mustered out at Bolivar, West Virginia on May 30, 1865. He died February 26, 1876. A headstone was provided by the U.S. Government in 1891 at the Union Cemetery, Waterford, Loundon County, Virginia. (by John Nash) |
