Read More	OBITUARY - Plain Dealer, Wabash (IN) Patrolman John Walter Dye, 58 years old, oldest officer in years of service on the Wabash Police Department, died at 10:50 o'clock Sunday night in the Wabash County Hospital of a stroke after an illness of two weeks. He became critically ill Saturday night and was taken to the hospital. Mr. Dye was scheduled to have been retired on pension this coming January. The policeman was born May 14, 1891 at Decatur, Ind., the son of William Edmond and Nina (Evans) Dye but was reared by the Link Anderson family. He had been a resident of the city for the last 35 years and of the county for 13 years before that. His marriage to Goldie Row occurred at Wabash on Sept. 7, 1910. Mr. Dye was employed at the Ford garage here for eight years preceding his appointment to the police department, which occurred during the first Showalter administration on Jan. 6, 1930. He wore the No. 1 badge of the department, was one of the charter members of the local chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police, serving as president for eight years, and being particularly active in promotion of the semi-annual police banquets to cement better relations between the department and the public. Mr. Dye was a member of the Church of the Brethren, Ohio Street. He is survived by the widow, one daughter, Mrs. Delphene Carter, this city, and the following sisters: Mrs. M.W. Maxwell, Piqua, O., Mrs. Frank Branson, Tipp City, O., Mrs. Herman Sitterly, West Plains, Mo., Mrs. Raymond Waterman, Johnstown, Pa., and Mrs. Fred Yocum, Arkadelphia, Ark. Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death. Two grandchildren, Rita Louise Carter and John Walter Carter, also survive. Chief Vear Howell said members of the department would attend services in a body in full uniform and that plans would be made for this purpose Monday afternoon. Other departments in the area are to be notified. The body was taken to the Hoover-Miner Funeral Home, where friends may call beginning this evening, and where services will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. Charles Oberlin, Marion, and the Rev. Grant E. Weaver officiating. #Burial will be in Falls Cemetery.
