Description	:	John Walter Tilley, 88, of Ayers Orchard Road, Stuart, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at Northeast Carolinas Medical Center in Concord, N.C. He was born in Stokes County on Nov. 27, 1919, to Lloyd Tilley and Ettie Rogers Tilley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Thelma Tipton Tilley; two sisters; and seven brothers. He was a member of Providence United Methodist Church and the VFW. Tilley of Charlotte, N.C.; and 22 nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Providence United Methodist Church with Pastor David Westmoreland officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in the Westfield Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Community Funeral Home in Stuart and other times at the home. Burial was in Westfield Baptist Church cemetery. The flag presentation was by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. Pallbearers were Jeff Tilley, Grant Tilley, Gary Tilley, David Estes, Kenny Tilley, Tim Tilley and John Tilley. Community Funeral Services of Stuart was in charge of arrangements.
