Read More	The Hooper Sentinel June 19, 1924 Pioneer of This Community Passes Away John Weigle, one of the real pioneers of this locality, and widely known over a large section of this part of the state, died at his home five miles northeast of Hooper at 11:45 Thursday night, June 12 at the age of 67 years, 3 months and 5 days. Heart trouble, from which he had been a sufferer for some time, was the cause of his death. His demise was sudden as before being taken ill about 11:30 that night he had been feeling as well as usual and shortly before had returned from a visit at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Chas. Claasen. When taken with his last illness medical assistance was at once summoned, but death ensued a few minutes before the physician could reach the home. In claiming Mr. Weigle, death took from this vicinity a man who was highly respected by the entire community and another name has been stricken from the fast and ever lessening roll of old settlers. He was a man of generous impulses and never forgot the generous hospitable ways of the pioneer. He was also a man that bore the adversity of early days bravely and enjoyed prosperity quietly, and in filling the various relations in life of husband, father, brother and friend he was ever loving, kind and helpful. He did much in his quiet way to further the interest of this community into the strong position it holds today. He served for 26 years as a member of the district school board, and was still serving in that capacity at the time of his death. Mr. Weigle was born at Long Grove, Ill., on March 7, 1857. When but a child of eighteen months he came with his parents to Nebraska and located on the well known Weigle homestead two miles north of town which is now farmed by his brother, Gus. There he grew to manhood enduring with his elders the trials of pioneering. In 1883 he was united in marriage to Miss Augusta Dickman. To this union eight children were born, one daughter dying in infancy, seven children remaining to mourn with the widow, a father and husband, who was beloved by all. The surviving children are: Mrs. John Hankins, of Stanton; Mrs. Wm. Edelman, of Fremont; Mrs. Fred Daubert, of Oakland; Albert, who lives at home; Mrs. N. A. Nelson, Mrs. E. J. Nelson and Mrs. Charles Claasen, of this vicinity. He is also survived by one brother, Gus, and two sisters, Mesdames Henry and Jacob Schwab of Hooper, and one sister, Mrs. Adam Schwab of Fort Lupton, Colo., who arrived here Sunday to attend the funeral. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon, with short services at 1:30 at the late home and at 2 o'clock at Grace Lutheran church, the Pastor, Rev. R. W. Livers preaching the words to the sorrowing family and relatives. The services were attended by a very large number of friends who thus silently paid their last respect to the man they had learned to esteem. Pall bearers were members from the Sons of Hermann Lodge of which he was a member. Interment was made in the Hooper cemetery. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - History of Dodge and Washington Counties, Nebraska and Their People 1921 Volume II, Page 698 John Weigle John Weigle has impressed himself upon the people of Hooper Township as a man of worth and stability, one whose experience, enterprise and enlightened views will add to the community's prestige and whose agricultural abilities will serve to assist materially in an elevation of standards. Mr. Weigle was born in Illinois, March 7, 1857, a son of George Weigle, who was born in Germany. George Weigle, upon his arrival in the United States in 1852 or 1853, spent two years in New York State and a like period in Illinois, and then came to Nebraska, where he hook up a homestead. He became a successful man and died, highly respected, at the age of seventy-two years. His wife, Christine Kramer, is also deceased, having died when about seventy-eight years of age. John Weigle was educated in the publics schools and began his independent career at the age of twenty-six years, when he began renting property from his father. At the time of the elder man's death, he secured his first land, an inheritance of 160 acres, and so able have his affairs been managed that at the present time his is the owner of 380 acres, all in good state of cultivation, and devoted to general farming and the raising of live stock. Mr. Weigle came to Dodge County when about two years of age and has made a place for himself among the substantial and reliable men of Hooper Township, where his property is located on section 11. He has excellent improvements and substantial buildings and keeps fully abreast of all the progressive movements made in his vocation. Mr. Weigle is a popular member of the local lodge of the Sons of Herman. He is an independent voter, and he and Mrs. Weigle are consistent members of the Lutheran Church. In 1883 Mr. Weigle married Augusta Dickman, who was born in Germany November 4, 1866, and came to the United States when six months old with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Weigle are the parents of seven children: Frederica, Augusta, Amelia, Albert, Carrie, Minnie and Emma. Another child Ella, died in infancy.
