J. W. Spargo who was stricken and an account of whom was given in Saturday evenings Journal, died yesterday morning at 5 o'clock. He never regained consciousness after his stroke of apoplexy. The funeral services were held from his late residence in southwest Washington this forenoon at 9:30 o'clock. The service was conducted by Rev. A. L. Davidson and the First U.P. Church Choir sang. It was the intention to take the remains to the Bidwell Cemetery near Brighton for burial today, but a telegram received at the time of the funeral stated that John's son, Alexander would arrive from Kansas tonight. The remains will therefore be kept until tomorrow and then taken to Bidwell Cemetery and laid to rest. It is believed John lays next to first wife Mary Jane in an unmarked grave. John was married to first wife Mary Jane Hawthorn, March 15, 1855, Jefferson County, Iowa. 7 children were born to their union, they were: Sarah H 1856-1870, Luanna E 1857-1932, Martha Elmira 1861 - ?, George Jesse 1863 - 1947 buried in Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln, Nebraksa, John Alexander 1865-1938, Mary W 1869-1871 buried in Bidwell Cemetery next to her Mother Mary and Malinda J 1873 - ?. Mary Jane passed away 1882 and is buried in Bidwell Cemetery. John remarried a 2nd time to Susan Strouse on August 20, 1889, Franklin, Washington County, Iowa. Susan was born 1859 and was the daughter of Enos Strouse and his wife Mary A Worthington of Dutch Creek, Iowa. 2 daughters were born to John and Susan's union, Elsie M 1888-1969 and Beulah 1890-1973 buried in Wyuka Cemetery, Lincoln, Nebraska. Susan passed away November 12, 1898, her grave has never been located. In the 1900 Census youngest child Beulah Spargo is living at home with her father John. Other daughter Elsie is living with an Uncle Henry Strouse and his wife, Henry was the younger brother of Susan Strouse.
