Description	:	Johann Wilhelm Frerichs was born Sept. 26, 1861, in Minsen, Germany to Heinrich Gerhard Frerichs and Thalke Marie Kleihauer. He came to America in 1885 to avoid further conscription into the German Army, after having served time as a Musketeer. Upon arrival in Whiteside County, IL, he worked as a farm hand, although he was a baker by profession. He married Anna Catharine Dirks Aug 26, 1886 in Sterling, Ill., and they moved to Clinton, IA in 1898. He married Anna Catharine Dirks Aug 26, 1886 in Sterling, Ill., and they moved to Clinton, IA in 1898. Johann was naturalized as an American Citizen on November 1, 1900, and shortened his name to John William, going by "Bill." Mr. Frerichs was a baker in Clinton until 1917 when a serious accident damaged his left arm (he was left handed.) The then was employed at Eclipse Lumber company. He retired in 1934. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church. The couple had six children: Carl, Minnie, Marie, Hattie, Theodore, and Meta. John died on Friday, Feb. 4, 1944 at his home on Fifteenth Ave South in Clinton, IA.
