John William Bickels was born in Shelby county, Iowa, April 17, 1874, and passed away Tuesday, May 12, 1925. He had reached the age of 51 years and 25 days. He received Christian Baptism at an early age and was united with the Evangelical church in Shelby of which he has been a faithful member. John William Bickels was born in Shelby county, Iowa, April 17, 1874, and passed away Tuesday, May 12, 1925. He had reached the age of 51 years and 25 days. He received Christian Baptism at an early age and was united with the Evangelical church in Shelby of which he has been a faithful member. He lived all his life in Shelby county with the exception of five years that he spent in California. He moved to his present home in 1916 where he resided until his death. He leaves to mourn, his wife, Johanna Bickels with their three children, Mrs. Ella Bergman of Hancock, Iowa, Almira and Harry Bickels, at home. Also four sisters and two brothers as follows: Henry, of Shelby, Louis and Amanda Bickels and Mrs. John Thomson of California. Mrs. Emily Hanson of Correctionville, Iowa, and Mrs. Gus Albertus, of Avoca, Iowa, besides many relatives and a host of friends. May God comfort all of the bereaved in their great sorrow is our earnest prayer. The funeral services were conducted from the home at Shelby by Rev. Wm. F. Essig from Avoca, on Friday afternoon May 15, 1925 with interment at the Shelby cemetery.
