Born in Spartanburg County on September 23, 1937, he was the son of the late Robert Ellis and Myrtle Fannie Smith Gwinn and widower of LaVerne Spencer Gwinn. Read More	John William Gwinn, 66, of 110 Lytle Street, Spartanburg, died Monday, July 5, 2004, at his home. Born in Spartanburg County on September 23, 1937, he was the son of the late Robert Ellis and Myrtle Fannie Smith Gwinn and widower of LaVerne Spencer Gwinn. Mr. Gwinn was a member of the Dove Assembly Church, where he served as an Elder. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in the Vietnam and Korean Conflicts. He retired from Earnhardt Electric Service Inc. with over thirty years of service in sales. Mr. Gwinn was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Lodge Roebuck Chapter #216; Roebuck Masonic Lodge #357; Millennium Lodge #2000; life member of the American Legion; member of the VFW; and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was an original member and founder of the Country Earl Cloggers and the John Gwinn Cloggers; former member of the Earnest Harvey Cloggers; Polk County Cloggers; Greer Oprey House Cloggers; and a member of America’s Clogging Hall of Fame at the Stomping Ground in Maggie Valley. Surviving are four daughters, Debbie W. Taylor of Wellford, Linda K. Forrester of Moore, Anne K. Robbins and Barbara Kelly, both of Spartanburg; one son, James W. Kelly, Sr. of Spartanburg; Eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Gwinn was predeceased by his first wife, Hazel Kelly Gwinn and five brothers, O’Neal Gwinn, Gene Gwinn, Junior Gwinn, Cliff Gwinn, and Edward Gwinn. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, July 7, 2004, at the Lanford-Dunbar Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 8, 2004, in Sunset Memorial Park with the Rev. Joe Mosley officiating. The family will be at the home of Gerald and Linda Forrester, 877 Old Georgia Road, Moore.
