Description	:	John W. Landis, age 66, of Bowbells, died Thursday, April 23, 1987, at the Americana Healthcare Center of Minot. His funeral was held Tuesday, April 28 at 10 a.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Bowbells with burial in the city cemetery. Officiating for the service was Rev. John Amundson with Mrs. Murial Johnson at the organ. A vocal duet was given by Mr. and Mrs. Harold Magedanz. Honorary casketbearers included Ken McIntyre, Robert Elstad, Lloyd Homiston, Walt Rogers and Art Hanson. He was born on May 19, 1919, at Bowbells, a son of Frank and Louise Landis and attended school there. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1938 in North Dakota and Montana and served in the Army from March 7, 1941 to August 11, 1945. He participated in the Tunisia, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns and received the Purple Heart during the Mediterranean Theater in August of 1944. Following his discharge and return to this area he was married to Mary Saen at Estevan, Sask., Canada on Sept. 19, 1949 and they lived in Bowbells. He worked for the Soo Line Railroad for a short time before beginning farming with Adolph Harms in the Bowbells area for a short time. He also worked as a custodian for the Bowbells School System, and for McIntyre Ford, and Mertes Implement (all in Bowbells) before retiring in 1973. He was a member of the Carl Oftendahl Post No. 127 of the Bowbells American Legion. He is survived by his wife of Bowbells; step-son, Robert Saen of Bowbells; daughters, Lydia Rosencrans of Casper, WY, Vanessa Conrade of Kenmare, and Roxanne Landis of Bowbells; six grandchildren, David, Jerry and Tammy Rosecrans, Tory Lynn Landis, Anthony Arndt and Charles Conrade, Jr.; sister, Mrs. Olive Granlund of Kenmare. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Maxine; sons Dan and Benjy; sisters, Daisy and Ruby. Thompson-Larson Funeral Home of Bowbells is in charge of arrangements.
