Description	:	Son of William and Elizabeth (Donophan) Masten. Husband of Lydia Florence Masten. Father of Linda L. Masten. He had served his country proudly in the United States Navy during World II from September 1943 to May 1947. During WWII he operated as a Unit of the 5th/3rd fleet in the South Pacific. He was rewarded for his many participations by receiving six ribbons and nine battle stars including Philippine Republic Presidential Medal, Navy Good Conduct, Navy Occupation Service, Victory Medal VVWII, Asiatic—Pacific Theatre Campaign and the American Theatre Campaign. He was activated again during the Korean War from September 1950 to May 1952 During this time he was aboard the USS Rescue and Salvage Bolster and receive the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Medal. He had worked for Gulf Oil between and after his military activities for a total of 22 ½ years. In 1968 he went to work for Carl King now Kent Oil as a salesman for 24 years. He was a member of the Whatcoat Methodist Church, Camden, a member of the Methodist Men and enjoyed helping with their many dinner projects. He gave freely of his time in caring for members of the church doing grocery shopping and transporting to doctor appointments. He often called himself an honorary member of the Rising Sun Community Club where he helped many people. He was a member of the Masonic Union Lodge No. 7, A.F. & A.M., Dover. John enjoyed gardening and sharing his vegetables with others especially his lima beans. He also enjoyed his many friends made during his working career and a lot of friends of the Blue Hen Mall walkers, fellowship with Harvest Years and the Modern Maturity Center members and friends for morning coffee at Hardee's.
