John was born on March 26, 1926 to John and Julia (Weatherly) McLeland Sr. in Marshalltown. He graduated from Liscomb High School in 1945. John was united in marriage to Evelyn M. Reece on May 10, 1947, at the Little Brown Church in Nashau. John farmed along with his wife and sons his entire life in the rural Liscomb and Conrad areas. John loved Evelyns home cooking. He was adored by his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with his family. John was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Conrad. He was a former trustee for Liscomb township. John loved to farm and enjoyed his cattle, attending several area beef shows. John will be missed by his wife of 63 years, Evelyn, sons; Jim (Sue) McLeland of Conrad, Denny (Diane) McLeland of Liscomb, seven grandchildren; Kris (Jason) Scafferi, David (Mindy) McLeland, Bill (Kristin) McLeland, Dana (Brad) Smith, Sara Hoffman, Amanda (Eric) West, Tyler (Kristen) Nations, and twelve great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents, a son in infancy, Thomas, and a sister in infancy, JoAnn.
