Capps, for many years a well-known resident of this city, died at 4:00 o'clock Friday morning, May 6th, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edna Brodie, in Granger, Iowa, at the age of eighty four years. Some time ago he fell and broke one of his hips. His advanced age prevented his recovery and he sank gradually until death came. Henry Welin, the undertaker, went to Granger and brought the remains to Boone Friday evening. They were taken to the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. H. Yeager, from where the funeral services were held at 3:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. A. L. Golden and attended by many sorrowing relatives and friends. The remains were laid to rest in the family lot in Linwood cemetery beside his loved one who had gone before. John Wilson Capps was born in Guilford County, N.C., Feb 6, 1826. In 1835 he removed with his family to Putnam County, Indiana where he grew to manhood and received his education in Asbury University. In 1857 he was united in marriage with Miss Julia Boone and to them were born ten children, seven of whom have preceded him in death. The survivors are Mrs. W. H. Yeager and Sylvanus F. Capps of this city and E. E. Capps of Minneapolis. In 1852 the family came to Boone County and engaged in farming for twenty two years, at which time his wife died. In 1879 he was married to Miss Fannie E. Haskell of Des Moines and to this union one daughter was born, Mrs. Edna Brodie of Granger, at whose home he died. In 1874 he commenced work with the American Bible and Tract Society and continued with them until five years ago, when failing health compelled him to give up work. At the age of twelve years he united with the M.E. church and remained a faithful member and worker until his death.
