Column 5 THE TOMB (Communicated) John Woodford Carter died, November 7th, 1888, in Dixon County, Nebraska, of a complication of dropsy and heart disease, after severe suffering for seventeen months. He was born in Old Virginia, December 26th, 1812. At the time of death, 75 years, 10 months and 11 days. He was brought by his parents, while a child, to Indiana Territory in 1812. He was born in Old Virginia, December 26th, 1812. At the time of death, 75 years, 10 months and 11 days. He was brought by his parents, while a child, to Indiana Territory in 1812. They stopped first on Clark's Grant, now Clark County, near where Charlestown is situated, finally settling in the woods in Grassy Fork township, this county, near the present site of Tampico, in 1817. From childhood to mature manhood, J. W. Carter lived in Jackson County, part of the time in Seymour. He passed through the early history and hard times experienced by the early settlers of the county. He did his full share in felling the dense forests and preparing the land of Jackson County to produce the abundant crops now gathered therefrom. January 1st, 1841, he married Caroline Keller, who was born and reared near Dudleytown in this county. At the time of his death they had lived together nearly 48 years. He leaves a widow and a large family to mourn his death. How time does shove us off the stage of action. John W. Carter's father's family of fifteen persons are now all dead but five. P.L.C.
