Born December 20, 1901 in Benton County, Tennessee. Son of Orlander Priestley Lashlee, and Minnie (Barnes) Lashlee. Married in Carroll County, Tennessee to Mildred Louella Jolly on December 28, 1925. Two sons: John Wyly (1931-2007), and Frank Priestley (1937-2008); both later serving in county and state government offices. Resided in the 10th Civil District of Benton County (Born in family home off court square in Camden, moved to Morris Chapel in 1910), J.W. Lashlee held extensive landholdings and business interest, overseeing his fathers farming and livestock operations, camden's first Ford auto dealership, and ferry operations at Trotter's Landing on the Tennessee River. Served as Chairman of Benton County Highway Commission, Benton County Jury Commission, Benton County Rationing Board, Benton County Election Commission, Democratic Executive Committee, Board of Stewards - Methodist Church, and was a member of the Roosevelt-Wallace, and BPOE/Elks Clubs in Nashville. Died July 10, 1944 in his home in the Morris Chapel Community of Benton County from complications resulting from a stroke several months prior (Jan 1944). He was a candidate to succeed himself for the 74th General Assembly. His wife Mildred served the remainder of his term, and was elected to a full term the following November making her Tennessee's first woman elected to the Senate in Tennessee. Buried in the Camden City Cemetery next to his father O.P. Lashlee. Great-grandfather W.P. Lashlee, grandfather John P. Lashlee, father O.P. Lashlee, great uncles Anderson P., Benjamin P., and William A. Lashlee, sons John and Frank also served in County, and State Offices. 1st Cousin to Frank Clement, elected Governor of Tennessee in 1952. Frank used the political contacts of John Wyly Lashlee to launch his bid for governor. John Lashlee was planning a run for the 1948 gubernatorial election himself prior to his untimely death in 1944. He had extensive contacts throughout Middle and West Tennessee and was to be backed by the "Boss" Crump political allies in Shelby County/Memphis, whom had been a friend of the Lashlee family dating back to the early 1900's. Aunt Mattie Clement (Aunt to both John Lashlee & Frank Clement) introduced Frank Clement to John Lashlee back when Frank was a young teenager and John Wyly was a State Representative and it has been told that John Wyly was instrumental in Frank Clements ambition to seek elected office in later years.
