Read More	Daily Freeman Journal, February 1957 Johnnie Luppes is First 1957 Highway Victim Wife Seriously Hurt In Crash Three Miles East of Blairsburg Johnnie Luppes, 52 year old Blairsburg farmer, was killed, and his wife, Pearl, 53, was seriously injured when their car ran off the dead end of a county road's T intersection with highway 20 about three miles east of Blairsburg last night. The car, which was traveling north, crashed into the ditch embankment at the north side of the highway. Both Mr. and Mrs. Luppes were thrown from the car. The accident happened about 8 p.m. Luppes was killed instantly, with death resulting from a broken neck. His wife was brought to the Hamilton county hospital where she received emergency treatment for two fractured legs, a fractured right wrist and extreme shock. Late last night she was transferred by ambulance to the Story City hospital. Her condition was described as serious. The Luppes' farm is located two miles south and a mile east of Blairsburg, a little more than two miles southwest of the scene of the accident. The death was Hamilton county's first 1957 highway fatality. The Luppes car just missed hitting a steel sign marking the intersection as the scene of another fatal accident several years ago. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Presbyterian church east of Kamrar preceded by a brief service at 12:45 p.m. at the Foster funeral home. The Rev. Harold DeVries of Kamrar will officiate with burial to be in the Presbyterian cemetery at Kamrar. Johnnie J. Luppes, son of John and Engel Luppes, was born Jan. 11, 1905 at Kamrar. When he was one year old he moved with his parents to a farm five miles east of Kamrar. He received his education in the rural schools in the Kamrar community and grew to young manhood there. He was united in marriage Sept. 11, 1926 to Pearl Meyer. Mr. and Mrs. Luppes started housekeeping on a farm near Williams and had always farmed in Hamilton county and for the past 12 years had resided on the present farm three miles southeast of Blairsburg. Mr. Luppes is survived by his wife; four sons and four daughters: Verl of Kamrar, Orvil of Ankeny, Johnnie, Jr. of Blairsburg, Cpl. Kenneth Luppes in the armed service, stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C.,; Mrs. Harvey (Aretta) Muxfeldt of Webster City, Mrs. Melvin (Iona) Hoversten of Minneapolis, Lavonne and Lois Luppes, both at home; 10 grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Harmka Schaa, Mrs. Hilke Denekas and Mrs. Elsie Janes, all of Jewell, and Mrs. Ed (Ollie) Denekas of Kamrar. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Mr. Luppes was baptized in the Presbyterian faith.
