Description	:	Johnnie J. Turek, 88, of San Tan Valley, Arizona, died Thursday, October 11, 2012 at his home. Johnnie was born in Dante, South Dakota on December 2, 1923 to John and Emma Turek. During his teen years,... Read More	Johnnie J. Turek, 88, of San Tan Valley, Arizona, died Thursday, October 11, 2012 at his home. Johnnie was born in Dante, South Dakota on December 2, 1923 to John and Emma Turek. Johnnie was one of nine children in the Turek family. At an early age, Johnnie and his family moved from their farm in South Dakota and came to Nampa, Idaho for a new beginning. The senior John Turek and his four boys were accomplished carpenters and extremely hard workingmen. Together they built several homes in the Hudson Ave/Canyon St. neighborhood. During his teen years, Johnnie met a young girl who lived at the "other end" of Hudson Ave, Shurla French. She made quite an impression on him BUT because of the reputation the Turek boys had (specifically Johnnie and his older brother, Raymond), Shurla was afraid to talk to Johnnie. In 1941, at the age of 17, with his parent's permission, Johnnie enlisted in the Army with his brother Raymond for WWII. After the war ended and Johnnie returned from Europe, Johnnie noticed Shurla again and decided to ask her out. That was the beginning of a 59-year love story. During their marriage, they lived in Oregon, Washington, and California before returning to Nampa where they purchased the Colorado XII Apartments and spent their remaining years in semi-retirement. Johnnie's career as a carpenter and general contractor in California was successful and he enjoyed his work, but for Johnnie his family always came first. He enjoyed teaching his nephews everything they wanted to know about construction. He was proud to pass on the knowledge, superior artisanship, and work ethic he learned from his brothers and father. He was preceded in death by his parents, John & Emma; seven of his siblings, Ed Turek, Robert Turek, Raymond Turek, Victoria Turek Schneider, Mary Turek Johnson, Eleanora Turek Allen and Helene Turek Van de Venter; his wife, Shurla French Turek; and his son-in-law, Jim Watkins. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Turek Watkins; sister, Emma Jean Turek Redinger; his grandchildren, John and Kathy McGoldrick, Robert and Lara McGoldrick, Chris Watkins, and Tamara Watkins Randall; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 11:00 am at Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Ave. So., Nampa. A private family inurnment will be held at Kohlerlawn Cemetery.
