Born April 9, 1929, in Orangeburg County, Clyde was the son of the late Willie and Annie Mae Edgemon. He leaves behind a large, loving family, including his wife of 58 years, Mary Lucille Edgemon of the home; five children, Dennis Marson (Renee) Edgemon of Youngstown, Fla., Michael Christopher (Deborah) Edgemon of Alexis, N.C., Amanda E. Adams of Lincolnton, Ga., John Anthony (Anita) Edgemon of Clifton Springs, N.Y., and Elizabeth E. (Ted) Williams of Knoxville, Tenn.; a sister, Willie Mae (Marvin) Rucker of Bamberg; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. After graduating from Bamberg High School in 1946, Clyde enlisted and served as a cook in the U.S. Navy until 1954. Upon returning to Bamberg, he and his family opened Clyde's Grill, which he owned and operated for 31 years. After retiring from the restaurant, he worked as a sales manager for Sanders Supply in Bamberg from 1985 until 2002. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Bamberg for 64 years, where he served in various leadership capacities including as chairman of deacons, fellowship coordinator, Sunday school teacher and Sunday school director. He was an avid gardener and fisherman who loved spending time outdoors and with his family. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at Cooner's Funeral Home in Bamberg. The family will receive friends immediately prior to the ceremony, beginning at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. A private burial will follow.
