Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday Dec. 9, 2008 at Watson Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. James Hucks officiating. Burial followed at Antioch United Methodist Church Cemetery. He was also predeceased by a brother, Mikey Mercer. Mr. Mercer was a member and trustee of Trinity Missions Church of Myrtle Beach. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam War, and was a former member of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Surviving are: his wife, Betty Mills Mercer of the home; a son, Jennings Mercer (Angela) of Conway; a daughter, Jennie Mercer and her fianc; Eric, of Conway; two stepsons, Joey Mills (Lisa) of St. Stephens, Gene Zurcher (Amy) of Hemingway; two stepdaughters; Sheila Davis (Paul) and Kim Marlowe and Ronnie, all of Georgetown; a stepfather, Joseph Churchill of Myrtle Beach; stepmother, Vernie Mercer (Skeet) of Georgetown: three sisters, Judy Kicklighter of Georgia, Linda Miller (W. D.) of Georgetown and Jolynn Churchill of Charleston; three brothers, Gerald Mercer of Georgetown, James "Peanut" Mercer of Georgetown and Pete Churchill of Conway; three grandchildren, Ashton Murrell and Evie Murrell of Conway and Valerie Marlowe of Georgetown; seven step-grandchildren, Sherri, Vanna, Vincent, Will, Krissy, Dillon and A.
