Read More	Johnsie Elese Glisson Smith-Johnson, 92, the widow of William Ivan Smith and Luther Johnson, went home to be with the Lord and join her waiting loved ones, Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Prince George Health Care. Mrs. Johnson was born the daughter of David Marion Glisson and Nora Bell Clifton Glisson on May 26, 1926, in Andrews. She started her professional career during a difficult time in US history – WWII. She was one of many women who stepped forward fulfilling the male roles of that time as she served as a welder at the Charleston Navy Shipyard. She completed needed certification to successfully do the job as a ship builder. As life transition, Johnsie moved into another career of service as she was a nursing assistant at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Andrews First Baptist Church though she often participated in several other churches when opportunity allowed. “Granny Johnsie” was a lady of strong character, stern convictions, with a servant’s heart, and a joyous witty spirit. She was an avid successful player and watcher of Jeopardy, enthusiastically watched Rodeos, loved cooking her recipes, and always gained strength over the years from watching Christian TV ministries. From life’s difficult lessons, Johnsie Smith-Johnson bestows to her family and friends a Legacy of Strength and Determination from her battle with Alzheimer’s. There is one thing Alzheimer’s cannot take away and that is love. Love is not a memory but a feeling that resides in your heart and soul. Johnsie and Ivan’s home was blessed with three children, Michael (Gail) Smith, Nora Smith, and Marilyn (Dale) Morris; eight grandchildren, Katie Smith, Adam Smith, William Moore, Matt Cox, Phillip Dickson, Marty (Candy) Morris, DeAnne (Joey) Wilson, and Mary Beth Morris; and six great-grandchildren, Bailey, Jacob, Dylan, Kam, Rivers, and Annalise; a brother, Ronnie (Annette) Glisson; two sisters, Evelyn Hughes and Modrey (Jack) Coward; and her extended family including the Smith siblings – Hilda (George) Hamrick and family, Carolyn (Bill) King and family, Bruce (Barbara) Smith and family, and a large number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by: her parents; her husbands; her daughter, Nora; six brothers, David Glisson, Alton Glisson, Lewis “Boot” Glisson, the twins – Wilford Glisson and Willard Glisson, and Watson Glisson; and two sisters, Lois Ethridge and Shirley Howard. A Home Going Celebration will be 11AM, Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Andrews First Pentecostal Holiness Church directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Donald Duncan. Mrs. Smith-Johnson will be laid to rest beside Ivan and Nora in the Andrews Memorial Cemetery. The Smith-Johnson family will receive family and friends immediately after the service in the church sanctuary. The Smith-Johnson family would like to make known: "Words could never express our heartfelt love and appreciation owed to the nurses and staff of Prince George Health Care and Hospice of South Carolina for their wonderful care and assistance given to our mother over this long 15 years of illness.
