Description : From the DAR - Johannes Van Metre was born and died at Kildare, the Van Metre home. In 1780, he was a Captain in a company of the Virginia militia from Berkeley County, Second Battalion. He was later promoted to the rank of Major. He was first buried at the Van Metre family burying ground at Kildare, but later his remains were removed to Green Hill Cemetery.

The 'John VanMetre house' built by Johonnus c.1780 is presently located at 177 Elsie Drive, Kearneysville, Berkeley County, West Virginia.
