Description	:	Son of Eloyd Ady & Mary Newell From the National Archives: Enlisted 23 November 1861 at Indianapolis for 3 years or the duration of the war; was mustered into service as a private on 13 December 1861 at Indianapolis in Company H 47th Regiment of Indiana Volunteers. Died in camp of disease at or near Riddle's Point, Missouri on 22 March 1862. Official description of him at time of enlistment: 41 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall, blue eyes, auburn hair. Information related in early 1930s to Ada Elizabeth Layton by her Great Aunt Julia E. (Ady) Thurber, born 1855: "Grandfather (Eloyd) Ady lived in Richland Co., Ohio. Father and mother were married in that county. They went to Toledo, Ohio and were in the canal boating business on the Erie Canal between Toledo and Ft. Wayne, Ind. They lost out, lost their money, and came to Indiana to live. George, Byron, and Mary Jane were born in or near Toledo, Ohio - perhaps William also. My grandfather (Eloyd) Ady was married twice. By his first wife he had Robert, Jonathan, and Mary Ady. By his second wife he had Solomon Ady. Robert Ady married Sophia Bowles and they lived in St. Joseph Co., Mich. They had a daughter Mary Ady who married her first cousin, George W. Ady, my brother. My Aunt Mary Ady married. My father, Johathan Ady, married Hannah Neering and they had 11 children. My half Uncle Solomon Ady died in Oregon, 1904."
