Hawkins, of Missouri; John Croston, of South Dakota and Geo. Davis, of Nebraska. Years ago, while living in Cascade, this state, he became a Christian and joined the M. E. church. Though of late the infirmities of very advanced age kept him from public worship, he seemed to continue in the faith and often spoke freely, and fervently of the duties, the joys and hopes of the Christian religion. The funeral was held on Saturday, January 7, at the home where he died, conducted by the Rev. W. Richards of Mt. Hope M. E. church and was attended by a large number of friends and relatives. The remains were laid to rest by the side of his wife and brother in Le Mars cemetery. The deceased came to this country in 1830, when sixteen years of age and worked for a time in Philadelphia before coming west. He was an uncle of Mrs. Robert Steele and Mrs. John Featherstone, both of whom attended the funeral. The children were all present at the funeral except Mrs. Davis of Nebraska, Mrs. Hawkins, of Missouri, Mrs. Jas. McCartney of California and John Croston of South Dakota.
