Mr. Votava was born at Zarobice, Bohemia, Oct. 17, 1855. He was married in Bohemia in August of 1876. Mr. and Mrs. Votava came to Butler county from Bohemia the year of their marriage. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Antonia Votava and the following children: Frank Votava at home, Mrs. Mary Viglicky, Mrs. Anton Viglicky, both of Bellwood, Mrs. John Cihacek of Morse Bluff, Joseph T. Votava, of Omaha, United States District Attorney of the Omaha division, Mrs. Bessie Kuzel and Mrs. Emma Vitek both of Colfax county. Mr. Votava was one of Butler county's prominent, substantial and successful farmers. He was a member of the Catholic Workmen Lodge. Funeral rites were conducted this Thursday morning at 10 o'clock at SS. Peter and Paul's Catholic church in Abie, Rev. Father A. Kasny, officiating. Pallbearers were Jerry Viglicky, Leonard Viglicky, Emil Cihacek, Albin Cihacek, Adolph Egr and Lawrence Votava. Burial was made in the parish cemetery at Abie. Abie, Sept. 24 – Joseph Votava, aged 80 years and living northwest of Abie, passed away at his home Tuesday noon, Sept. 17, after an illness of three months. Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 19, at 9:30 a.m. at the home and at 10 a.m. from Sts. Peter's and Paul's Catholic church in Abie, Rev. Father Kasny, O.S.B., officiating with requiem mass. Interment was in the Abie Catholic cemetery. The pallbearers were Emil Cihacek, Albin Cihacek, Jerry Viglicky, Leonard Viglicky, Adolph Egr and Clarence Votava. Mr. Votava, a pioneer Butler county farmer, was born in Zarobice, Czechoslovakia, October 5, 1855, where he grew to manhood and received his education and where he was united in marriage to Antonia Kalenda on August 26, 1876. Mr. and Mrs. Votava came immediately to the United States and Butler county, locating on the farm that had been his home until time of death. Mr. Votava is survived by his wife, two sons, Joseph Votava, Jr., United States attorney from the Omaha district, and Frank Votava, of Linwood, and five daughters, Mrs. Mary Viglicky and Mrs. Anton Viglicky of Bellwood, Mrs. John Cihacek of Morse Bluff and Mrs. Bessie Kuzel and Mrs. Emma Vitek of Colfax county, all of whom were present at the funeral. He is also survived by 11 [grand]children and two great-grandchildren. Other relatives present at the funeral from elsewhere, besides the children, were J. K. Proshocil, James Proskovec, Mrs. Kline Finley and Mrs. Joe Pekar of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. John Dworak, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Buresh, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Votava, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ratkovec of Valparaiso, Mrs. Antonia Dustako of Clarkson, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sloup, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vyhlidal and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stranik of Prague and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kuzel of Howells. During his active years Mr. Votava took an active part in the development of his community and the affairs of Butler county and the state, and was highly respected by all who knew and came in contact with him. He was a faithful member of the Catholic church and a member of the Catholic Workmen lodge. __ Card of Thanks – We wish to express thanks and appreciation to our relatives, friends and neighbors who so kindly assisted us at time of bereavement and death of our beloved husband and father.
