Obituary, Columbus (NE) Telegram, 5 Aug 1935: Mrs. Edward Watke, Dies Mrs. Edward Watke, former resident of Butler county and Columbus, passed away at 2 a.m. yesterday at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. David Seifert at Boelus, Neb., where she had made her home since 1918. She had been in failing health for some time, and her death was caused by complications incident to her advanced age. As Miss Josefa Kosch, she was born at Ermisdorf, Austria, on April 5, 1937, where she grew to womanhood. It was also at Ermisdorf that she met the late Edward Watke, to whom she married on Jan 27, 1862. They made their home in Roemerstadt, Austria, and in 1876 came to this country. Coming directly to Columbus, they located on a farm south of town in Butler county, and made their home there until 1899 when they retired and moved to Columbus. Mr. Watke passed away on Dec 23, 1917, and one year later she moved to Boelus to reside with her daughter. She has always been a devout member of the Catholic church, and when her health permitted, she was a member of St. Anne's society. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Seifert, of Boelus; two sons, Robert F. Watke of Chicago, and Fred B. Watke of Columbus; 10 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. The body will be brought here tomorrow from Boelus, and will be taken to the Fred B. Watke home, 1760 Twenty-seventh avenue, where it will lie in state until the hour of the funeral. The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bonaventure's church, with Rev. Fr. David, assistant pastor, officiating. Burial will be made in the Catholic cemetery.
