Bruno, March 30 - Funeral services for Mrs. Josephine Stava, who passed away at 1:20 Monday afternoon at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Stava, were held from the home at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning to St. Anthony's church. Rev. Father F. J. Kopecky said requiem mass at 9:30 o'clock and conducted the burial rites. Interment was in St. Anthony's Catholic cemetery beside the grave of her husband who passed away March 23, 1933. Mrs. Stava was 83 years, two months and 22 days of age at time of death, following a lingering illness of 26 months and was bedfast the past month, due to infirmities of advanced age, during which time she had received constant and loving care at the home of her son. She was devout Catholic, a member of the Rosary society and of the women's branch of the Catholic Workmen lodge. Mrs. Stava was born Josephine Bouzek on June 6, 1855, at Dolny Villimovice, Okreau Treblc, Jehlava, Czechoslovakia. Her parents died when she was 12 years old and with her sister, Frances, and their brother, the late John Bouzek of Linwood, and his wife, they came to the United States and Butler county in 1876. Following her marriage to John A. Stava in Sts. Peter's and Paul's church, Abie, Mr. and Mrs. Stava located on a farm near Bruno where they resided until retiring and moving to Bruno. To them 11 children were born, five of whom, three daughters and two sons, with their father preceded Mrs. Stava in death. The surviving children are Joseph Stava and Robert Stava of Bruno, Albert Stava of Rising City, Frank Stava of David City, James Stava of Wahoo, and Mrs. Charles Hoskovec of Omaha. One sister, Mrs. Frank Sindelar, of Clarkson also survives. Mrs. Stava, who had undergone the hardships of pioneer life, was a hard working woman and particularly enjoyed her garden. She was a kind neighbor and had many friends.
