Description	:	Joseph A. Neemann, 96, of Kearney, died October 16, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Funeral Services will be Monday, October 21, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Kearney. Rev. Gary Main will officiate. Burial with military rites provided by the Grand Island Honors Guard and the Nebraska National Guard Military Honors team will be at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Cairo, NE. Joe was born on June 10, 1917 to John and Katie (Moss) Neemann near Bassett, NE. He grew up farming and ranching. Joe attended school in Burwell and also Taylor, NE. On February 25, 1938 he married Elsie Allen in Burwell, NE. Shortly after, they moved to Joy, and then to Big Piney, Missouri where he split railroad ties, set power poles and operated heavy equipment during the construction of Fort Leonardwood. He was drafted into the Army Air Force in 1943 and served in North Africa earning the rank of Sergeant. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 21, 1946 and returned to Shelton, NE. During the next few years the family moved to Sidney, Omaha, and back to Shelton where Joe worked at the Ordinance Plant in Grand Island. When the Ordinance Plant closed, they moved to Kearney where Joe worked for NPPD as a truck driver until his retirement. After 47 years of marriage, Elsie passed away in 1985. He married Verla Cole on July 2, 1988 in Kearney. They made their home in Kearney. During their time together they enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and each other. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Kearney, Kearney V.F.W. Post #759 and the Kearney American Legion Post #52. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, collecting insulators and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Surviving relatives include: wife; Verla Neemann of Kearney, grandson; Ty and wife Sherree Stahn of Central City, NE, granddaughter; JoHanna and husband Calvin Berg of Central City, NE, five great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, stepsons; Lary and wife Cathy Cole of Holcomb, KS, Jim and wife Elizabeth Cole of Salina, KS, Bradley and wife Peggy Cole of Cairo, NE, Bob and wife Pam Cole of Shelton, NE, eight step grandchildren, and nineteen step great grandchildren. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son; Larry Neemann, daughter; Sharee Stahn, four brothers; Edward, Theodore, Edwin, Carl, and four sisters; Della, Barbara, Alice, and Violet.
