Kelly, engaged in the manufacturing business here for many years, passed away Sunday morning at 9 o'clock at Mercy hospital, where he had been seriously ill for several weeks, following a gradual decline in health for months. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning, December 4, at 9 o'clock at St. Mary's church. J.A. Kelly was born August 7, 1854, in Philadelphia, Pa., and came to Clinton at the age of 15 years. His subsequent life was passed here, and he gave much of himself to Clinton, serving for a number of years as member of the board of directors for the school district, was one of the organizers of the Sheridan club and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and of the Wapsipinicon club. He was married to Miss Mary Moloney, December 30, 1884, at New Orleans. Left to mourn his demise are his wife and children, Mrs. F.M. Keefe, Harold A. Kelly and Paul F. Kelly; also a sister, Mrs. Mary Wright and brothers, P.H. Kelly, Thomas F. Kelly and W.T. Kelly, all of Clinton. The Clinton Herald Tuesday December 4, 1928 p. 5 Funeral services for J.A. Kelly were held thismorning at St. Mary's church the requiem mass sung by the children's choir. The Rev. H.M. Staunton of St. Mary's was celebrant of the mass. In the sanctuary were the Rev. James McGuire, Shelsburg, Wis.; the Rev. James Comerford, St. Irenaeus, Clinton; the Rev. W.T. Lee, New York city N.Y.; the Rev. Tom Rooney, Cascade; the Rev. P. Coffey Farley; the Rev. J.A. Glenn, St. Patrick's Clinton. Interment was in St. Mary's cemetery, the palbearers, J.P. Calnan, Richard Halinan, James O'Neil, W.J. Burke, J.E. Mooney, W.J. Keefe, Dr. J.C. Langan and J.L. Wolfe. Among those who came from out of the city were two of Mrs. Kelly's nieces. Mrs. W.J. Young and Miss Leona Brown of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene J. Walsh, Dr. and Mrs. R.P. Carney, Mr. and Mrs. L.M.B.
