Father John Achatz of Rockwell City, a son, will be the celebrant of the mass; the Rev. Father Schultes of Churdan, deacon, and the Rev. Father Joseph Dalhoff, of Early, sub-deacon. Came to U. S. in 1883 Joseph Achatz was born in Rehmanfelden, Niederbayern, Germany, July 3, 1850 and received his education in his native land, where he grew to manhood. He was employed in a saw mill and also served three years in the imperial army. He was married to Miss Mary Kraus in Germany, in 1878, and then came to the United States April 15, 1883 and settled in Carroll county. Mr. Achatz first worked on a farm south of Carroll and three years later purchased a farm south of the city where he remained until he retired in 1909 and moved east of town in the home where Mrs. Achatz died in 1917. Since that time he has made his home with his son, Joseph Achatz, on South Clark street, where he died. Six Children Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Achatz, two died in infancy. The surviving are Joseph Achatz of Carroll, Mrs. Mary Roth of Geddes, S. D., and Rev. Father John Achatz of Rockwell City, Mrs. John Hansman, south of Carroll. He also leaves 12 grandchildren and one brother Alois Achatz in Germany. Two sisters preceded him in death. The last 17 weeks of his life Mr. Achatz spent in bed, but in spite of his suffering was always cheerful and patient. He was a great reader and was fond of discussing politics with his friends. He was a member of the Holy Name society and a devout member of Ss. Peter and Paul's church. Mrs. Roth arrived a week ago from Geddes, S. John Achatz of Rockwell City, celebrant. The Rev. Father Arthur Poeckes was master of ceremonies, the Rev. Father Joseph Schultes of Churdan, deacon and the Rev. Father Joseph Dalhoff of Early, sub-deacon. Burial was in the Ss. Peter and Paul's cemetery and the pallbearers were Fred Lappe, William Scharfenkamp, Ben Wibber, Frank Walz, Lambert Baumhover, and Isadore Hoffman. The Rev. Father Schenkelberg conducted the services at the grave. Clergy attending the services were the Rev. Fathers M. Wendl, Specer; A. H. Ocken, Royal; Paul Warzawa and P. T. Lynch, Carroll; B. Montag, Templeton; J. McAuliffe, Auburn; P. Mattes, Scranton; C. Huelshorst, Dedham; Bernard Eischeld, Ereda; Lwrence Schoeppner, Lidderdatel; D. Clark of Manilla; M. Stork, Arcadia; S. Roth, Mt. Carmel; O. Dentlinger, Sac City; E. Neppl, Ashton; J. Neppl, Mallard; J. Neppl, Pomeroy; B. Schillmoeller, Halbur; J. J. Keane, Manning; A. Nuel, Manson. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Frederick Huesman of Templeton and his chaplain, the Rev. Father E. J. Schleyer of Breda were also present. Mrs. John Hansman, a daughter, who is ill, was unable to be present, the other children attending were Joseph Achatz of Carroll, Mrs. Ben Roth of Geddes, S. D., and the Rev. Father John Achatz of Rockwell City. Relatives attending the funeral were Miss Florence Roth of Geddes, S. D., John Hansman and family, John Kraus, sr., Mr. and Mrs. John Kraus, jr., Mr. and Mrs. Herman Venteicher and family, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kraus and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Kraus and family, all of Willey. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kraus, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Drees, all of Lidderdale; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kraus of Early, Miss Frances Kramer of Baynard, and Mrs. John Steffes of Bayard, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Roth of Breda; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Heithoff and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schoeppner of Templeton, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Krause of Carroll; Mrs. Anna Schwaller, son Sylvester and daughter, Anna of Roselle. Friends present were Miss Mathilda Schroidowski of Eagle Grove, Miss Agnes and Grace Flanagan, Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Harrington, Miss Zetta Fisch, Mrs. Frank Moore, Mr. and Mrs. John Pitstick, Sister M. Gabriel and Sister M. Kevin, all of Rockwell City and Mr. and Mrs. Mason Walker of Glidden.
