Read More	Joseph Ain Cox Victim of Sudden Heart Attack Joseph Ain Cox, youngest son of Joseph and Rachel Cox, was born at Elk Point, South Dakota, March 27, 1872 and passed away suddenly from a heart attack at his home Monday morning, March 29, 1937. He was 65 years and two days old. Death took place on the farm home four miles west of town. At the age of seven years he moved with his parents to Woodbury County, where he has since resided. He was one of a family of fourteen children, all of whom have preceded him in death with the exception of one sister, Mrs. Ida Bower, and one brother, Chas Cox, both of Smithland. On December 30, 1890, he was married to Lillie A. Button. Ultimately they became the proud and happy parents of four children, one son and three daughters. He was affiliated with the Modern Woodman Lodge, and was an active member of the Farm Bureau for many years, and for the last fifteen years served as trustee of Little Sioux Township. Though not definitely affiliated with any religious body, Mr. Cox was a man who believed in God. He believed and practiced industry and thrift. He was an honest and upright man in his dealing with other people. He is survived by his wife, his son and three daughters, DeWitt Cox of Oto, Mrs. J.I. Holzman and Mrs. Chas. Hall of Smithland and Mrs. Alfred Weber of Hornick and eight grandchildren. In addition, there is a brother and sister already mentioned. All his life long Mr. Cox has been a hard-working man and until recently has enjoyed comparative good health, and worked right up to the last hour of his life. He was in Smithland doing business as usual on Saturday, and did the farm chores on Monday morning. About 9:30 he was stricken with a heart attack and passed away peacefully before a doctor could arrive. He had a very cheerful disposition and to know Mr. Cox was to be his friend. We regret his passing. We take comfort in the thought, however, that while he went quickly he died free from pain. To the widow and to the family we, as a community of neighbors and friends, extend our deep and heartful sympathy and assure them of our good-will, our friendship and our desire to lighten their burden as much as it could be done. Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church at 2 o’clock Wednesday, Rev. Fredrick Grantham, local pastor, conducted the services. The pallbearers were Geo. Kelsey, G.E. Wendel, Dave Theophilus, John Chilton, Mott Jones and Horace Hall. Interment took place in the Smithland Cemetery.
