W. and Elizabeth (Light) Prewitt, was born at Freedom, Indiana, September 14, 1871 and departed this life at his late home in Orient, Iowa, April 2, 1931, aged 59 years, 7 months, and 12 days. W. and Elizabeth (Light) Prewitt, was born at Freedom, Indiana, September 14, 1871 and departed this life at his late home in Orient, Iowa, April 2, 1931, aged 59 years, 7 months, and 12 days. When a boy of five he came with his parents and located on a farm in Adair county northwest of Fontanelle. The Farm still bears the family name "The Prewitt Farm". On November 20, 1901 he was united in marriage with Lillie May Martin of Fontanelle, Iowa. Four children were born to them: Gilbert A., Bridgewater; Clara J. (Prewitt) Bolton, Bridgewater; Homer D., Casey; and Joseph Jr. at home. Most of their married life was spent on the farm near Fontanelle. Five years were spent in Missouri and three years ago the family moved to Fontanelle, last August they moved to Orient. On Easter Day 1914, just sixteen years ago, with his wife and family was baptized into the Christian faith and united with the United Methodist Episcopal church at Osceola, Missouri, later the church letter was transferred to the M. E. church south of Lawson, Missouri, where it still remains. He is survived by his wife and four children, three grand children, three brothers; W. R. of Forest City, Iowa; Wilson, Excelsior Springs, and George in Nebraska, and by many others relatives and a host of neighbors and friends. He was in an accident while breaking a colt at Howard Rogers last Wednesday. His injuries were not though to be fatal but his weaken condition indicated the end on the following day. He has been in failing health for the past nine years. He was a kind, loving man, devoted to his home and children, always doing what he could for the betterment of those he loved. Funeral services were conducted from the Fontanelle Methodist Episcopal church Easter afternoon April 5, 1931 at 2 o'clock by the pastor Rev. James Walls, with interment in the Fontanelle cemetery.
